Oshcon
OSHCON, INC. is
a small consulting business specializing in occupational safety
and health (OSH) matters. OSHCON’s primary consultant’s
38 years of experience in five major industries provide a
broad range of expertise. Construction, General Industry,
Healthcare, Longshore and maritime operations, and Ship Repair
are included in OSHCON’s expertise and experience. The
experience includes OSH program development, implementation,
analysis, hazard prevention and control, training, auditing,
program monitoring, expert witness, and managerial program
assessments.
Services
The primary consultant
is Walter Chun, PhD, CSP, CHSP, CHST. The range of services
will vary from client to client and is based on their needs.
A list of examples of these services is shown below.
A
company with an OSH program desires an audit to obtain
a “peer review” or another set of eyes. OSHCON
can provide a formal or informal audit as needed. Oftentimes
companies require assistance with determining what they
need. The informal audit process provides a “snapshot”
of their program and recommendations from OSHCON.
A
company without a written OSH program desires assistance
with development of the program. OSHCON can provide assistance
to develop and implement the program or in varying degrees
assist with the development and implementation of the
program. In this example, a small business has designated
a manager as the safety coordinator for the company and
need assistance with the development and implementation
of their OSH program. OSHCON can assist with training
the safety coordinator while developing and implementing
the program.
A company requires assistance with the development of
a specific program. For example a fall protection plan
for maintenance of a building is needed. OSHCON can assist
and will coordinate the effort with the company’s
safety manager to develop the program and assist with
implementation.
Specific
training is needed for a variety of reasons. OSHCON can
conduct the training needed or assist with the development
of a training plan using existing staff personnel. OSHCON
can conduct train-the-trainer programs to develop the
expertise and skills for “in-house” trainers.
Expert
witness assistance can be provided as needed. Walter Chun
has over 15 years in expert witness experience.
Healthcare
assistance in specific or program areas can be provided.
Consulting for the Environment of Care based on the Joint
Commission for Accreditation standards is part of the
cadre of services provided by OSHCON.
Companies starting to obtain recognition and certifications
of their programs may require assistance. OSHCON can assist
with preparation for Hawaii’s SHARP program, the
State of Hawaii certification of the OSH program, Voluntary
Protection Program, etc.
Consultation
Structuring OSHCON services is customized for each client.
OSHCON can provide immediate short term consultation and assistance;
or long term monitoring assistance; or mentoring for existing
managers or staff; or any combination of these types of services.
